CERN LHC Down for Two Months At Least

September 22nd, 2008 · No Comments

Many of you who are following Planet X are also interested in the activities at the CERN complex in Lucerne, Switzerland and the Large Hadron Collider, whose 17-mile circumference is buried deep beneath it.

Scientists are using this LHC to try to answer questions about the creation of the universe, but the rest of us worry about side-effects of the success (or worse, the failure) of such an experiment might bring, such as anything from a polar shift of the Earth’s crust to turning the Earth into a Black Hole and obliterating everyone and everything on the face of the planet.

Since I am not a scientist, I will not discuss either scenario, but last week, something did happen to the LHC that I do understand.  A mechanical breakdown.  The following article comes from Space Daily.

CERN says atom-smasher down for two months

The world’s largest particle collider will be down for at least two months following a helium leak into the tunnel, a spokesman for the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) said Saturday. James Gillies told AFP: “There has been an incident in a test. One section of the machine will have to be repaired.”

CERN said in a statement that a fault occurred on Friday afternoon, resulting in a “large helium leak into the tunnel.

Basically, first, a large transformer blew.  Then, a leak formed, which leaked out huge amounts of liquid helium, causing temperature inside the machinery to rise to the boiling point of water.  That leaves a temperature range from absolute zero to 100C.  They shut the collider down, which returned the temperature to near absolute zero again.  That is deadly for any human being, so the temperature has to be normalized before the repairmen can begin working.

So, will we ever learn what happened during the Big Bang, or did some unseen something just save all life on Earth, and the Earth, itself, from certain extinction?  We will have to wait until at least November to find out.

Meanwhile, we “only” have a hurricane season, an explosive election year and an economic collapse to worry about, not to mention war.  I’d say that leaves plenty on our plates for now.

Catch you on the backside!
